United Way Connects -
Centre of Collaboration

Officially launched in the fall of 2005, United Way Connects, Regina’s centre for collaboration, provides meeting, space training opportunities for community-based organizations, community workshops, facilitators, information and resources, and a range of other services as required and identified by the community.

The Centre also houses a Resource Centre. For information about booking the facility or using the Resource Centre visit United Way Connects main page - United Way Connects.

United Way Connects enhances our community's capacity to achieve effective, sustainable community impact by supporting collaborative processes and initiatives that address root causes in a holistic and integrated way.

The vision for United Way Connects is to:

  1. support collaboration as the first principle in addressing issues;
  2. support programs and initiatives that focus on our community’s strengths and assets; and
  3. support the community to work together to strengthen our capacity to address challenges and take advantage of opportunities.

The principles upon which United Way Connects is founded are to:

  1. engage community with a commitment to nurturing citizen participation;
  2. build upon existing strengths / resources / services rather than duplicate or replace them;
  3. use asset-based strength-oriented practices;
  4. respect the fact that “community building is community based, community paced and community directed”;
  5. value equally the way work gets done and the results of our work; and
  6. develop services that are representative of, accessible to, and effective within all cultural communities.

Since its opening in 2005, more than 800 events, meetings and workshops have been held at United Way Connects. Examples of recent events include: a series of workshops with guest Jay Connor; KidsFirst training; Regina Regional Intersectoral Committee meetings; Alliance of Asset Champions meetings; orientation for new Executive Directors; and T3010A training.

Many visitors comment on the signage that is displayed throughout United Way Connects. These signs are displayed to encourage the development of successful collaborations and group meetings. The text on the signs may be found in the resource guide - What is Collaboration?
