You will find that an United Way workplace campaign enables your employees to communicate, learn and succeed as a team. Our campaigns encourage entire departments or organizations to work together to accomplish a common goal. Your employees will build better working relationships which will help to break down workplace barriers as employees and managers from all areas of your organization participate in events together.

Best Practices
Our past experience has taught us some of the best practices you should consider employing when conducting your own United Way Campaign.

1. Senior managers support their employees in running a workplace campaign. This has meant the early selection of a team leader who has strong communication and organizational skills. These campaign teams are usually in place by the spring of each year to provide them with adequate time to plan and organize an effective campaign. Strong workplace campaigns allow staff to participate in training opportunities provided by United Way.

2. Senior managers are visible supporters of the committee and the campaign and use the workplace campaign as a tool to build staff morale and company pride. Special events are used to motivate staff and create awareness. Senior managers encourage participation at these events and demonstrate strong leadership by being visible at the events.

3. United Way has a volunteer group called the Speakers Bureau, which allows a representative from a United Way partner to speak to employee groups about the impact their gifts make in our community. These speaking events are often powerful motivators for employees.

4. Successful workplace campaigns provide employees with the opportunity to make donations through payroll deduction. On average, individual gifts made through a year-round, payroll-based installment plan are more than twice that of one-time gifts.
